The suspect is presumed to have stabbed the children at the terrace of their apartment before going in to attack their mother. The attack from the man has put the woman's eight year old in a critical condition. The little girl is currently fighting for her life after suffering from a punctured lung at around 10 am on Tuesday. The mother of the child was stabbed in the chest and is in critical condition. Her other children aged 12 and 14 are also receiving treatment in the hospital. The attack happened at the Garde-Colombe in the Hautes-Alpes region. The suspect who was also a guest at the resort was believed by some media reports to have been upset at the family because of their dressing but the regional prosecutor, Raphael Balland told the AFP news agency that the motive was unclear and that "no religious statement had been made".
